Fall 2025 Preconstruction Co-op

Atlanta, GA
Full Time
Student (College)

McKenney's Inc., voted one of Atlanta and Charlotte's BEST PLACES TO WORK, is seeking Engineering and Construction Management Majors who are interested in the construction industry.  As an industry leading mechanical contractor, McKenney’s has specialized in HVAC and Plumbing construction throughout the greater Atlanta area for over 70 years. At McKenney’s our co-ops are an integral part of the success for our projects and the company, and we rely on and encourage their fresh ideas.

As a co-op, you will be part of the team from day one and given training and tasks that are important and impactful to our future projects' success. McKenney's has a long history of success in hiring Co-ops and supporting their growth into well rounded leaders. Much of our Executive Leadership team, Operations Managers, and senior leaders started in the Co-op   program.

The responsibilities and job skills learned are primarily dependent upon the individual Co-op's drive, determination, and ability to learn and function on a multi-disciplinary project team.  A typical day can range from processing project documents, analyzing the drawings of some of the biggest projects coming to Atlanta, notifying, and coordinating with internal and external partners, and assisting our sheet metal and piping estimators with material and labor take offs.  A successful Co-op will learn how to estimate projects and scopes of work, work directly with vendors and subcontractors, and support our operations groups both during the estimating phases and after job turnover. Experienced, successful Co-ops will have the opportunity to lead the entire bid process for a multi-million-dollar project, from the beginning stages to the final proposal, under the guidance a Sales Engineer. Our next job could be on your campus!

RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Co-Ops will work hand in hand with various Estimators and Sales Engineers to assist in all phases of the bid process.

·        Co-Ops will coordinate with external vendors and subcontractors to solicit major material and equipment quotes for various jobs.

·        Co-Ops will regularly manage and organize construction documents.

·        Co-Ops will work with the Preconstruction team to review project drawings and specifications to develop estimates and proposals.

·        Co-Ops will use our software tools to produce labor and material reports

·        Co-Ops will contribute to Preconstruction technology initiatives, including using RPA’s and capturing project data.

·        Co-Ops will attend job site walks to track and measure estimate performance.

Candidates must be able to complete a minimum of 2 full-time, alternating co-op rotations in the office they are being hired for prior to their graduation. It is preferred to complete 3 rotations. (Fall 2025, Summer 2026, Spring 2027) Students must be enrolled in a co-op program at an accredited engineering school majoring in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering.

·        Self-motivated and team-orientated

·        Ability to use time productively in a fast-paced environment.

·        Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

·        Must be a self-starter with ability to work well independently and as part of a team

·        Maintain a strong attention to detail

·        Ability to effectively communicate across a diverse group of people (PMs, drafting, field staff, fabrication shops, etc.).

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability
Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
