Job Summary: The Sheet Metal Journeyman is a skilled trade professional responsible for the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of sheet metal components and ductwork systems. This role requires both technical expertise and leadership capability to manage projects efficiently and mentor apprentices.
Objectives:
- Verify all required certifications and credentials
- Assess current skill level against SMACNA standards
- Establish baseline competencies
Responsibilities
- Review and validate OSHA 30 certification, apprenticeship records, and experience documentation
- Administer blueprint reading assessment
- CAD proficiency evaluation
- Introduction to McKenney's project management systems and safety protocols
- Lead or co-lead a ductwork installation project
- Mentor an apprentice on 1 project task
- Successfully interpret and execute SMACNA-compliant specifications
- Independently manage a project from bid through completion
- Demonstrate proficiency in 2 specialized techniques (welding, brazing, med-gas, etc.)
- Show consistent adherence to schedule and budget targets
- Sheet metal fabrication and installation
- Blueprint reading and CAD interpretation
- SMACNA standard compliance
- HVAC systems knowledge
- Measurement and precision tolerancing
- Quality inspection and testing
